TEST: Tom Young Cabin

Tom Young Memorial Cabin is located on Yán Ayawa Glaakw Island (formerly Kolash Island as shown on maps), northwest of Goddard Hot Springs. It is accessible year-round by boat. Cabin is $60 + tax(s) per night. This is a Pan Abode style with a Nordic (#1 DIESEL ONLY) Oil Stove, a second floor sleeping loft and sleeps up to 8. Permittee is responsible for transporting fuel and 5 gallons for 3 day stays when temperatures are at or above freezing should be sufficient.
Drinking water for the duration of stay is required as the island does not have a potable water source.
Weather and unsafe boating conditions may occur any time of the year, be prepared for the possibility for an extended stay. Extra food and clothing are recommended.
A mooring buoy is available for tie-up for cabin permit holders only. It is white and blue, set in 30 feet of water, with 60’ chain and a 3000 lb anchor.

Permittee must have permit and the fee receipt in possession while using the City and Borough of Sitka public use facility.

Reservation Information: Reservations can be made up to ninety (90) days in advance and are handled on a first come first serve basis online through City and Borough of Sitka Parks and Recreation office. The 90 day advance rule will start on the first day of the reservation and can be made for up to 3 consecutive days. For example on April 2nd, the furthest day out you may rent the cabin is July 1st (90 days out) for no more than 3 consecutive days (July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd). If requesting 2 or 3 day extensions for this time, please either call 907.747.4031 or email recreation@cityofsitka.org for Parks and Recreation staff to adjust your reservation. Permits are issued for noncommercial purposes only. A permit-day begins at 12:00 noon on the assigned day and ends at 12:00 noon following the last day of stay. The cabin may be reserved a maximum of three (3) days by the same party. Per city code, the person acquiring a permit must be resident of Sitka and a member of the party for the duration of use. Permits are only issued to persons eighteen years of age and over.

Changes or Cancellations to your Reservation: There will be a $10 service fee for any reservation cancellation or modification. A refund will only be given for reservations that are cancelled at least five (5) calendar days in advance of the first day of the reservation. The amount refunded will reflect the deduction of the $10 service fee. Refunds will not be given for reservations cancelled or modified less than five (5) days from the first day of the reservation. New dates must be chosen at the time the reservation is changed. The new dates must be within ninety (90) days of the date the reservation is changed. The $10 service fee will be charged at the time a new permit is issued reflecting the new dates. Reservations may be changed one (1) time only. In order to receive a refund or change a reservation, the permittee must present the original permit.

In addition to the $50 fine assessed for each day of unauthorized use of the cabin, the City and Borough of Sitka will also charge retributory fees equal to the daily rate of the cabin for the time the unauthorized use occurs.
